What We Do

Our film presentation focuses on individuals and groups involved in environmental projects along the Newtown creek in New York City.

For seventeen years, filmmaker Robert DiMaio has been documenting efforts by local citizens to minimize abuse of this beautiful waterway, and seek approval for recreational use. We are showing these short films in libraries, community centers and schools with these objectives:

  • Bring important awareness to the accomplishments of groups of environmental visionaries working on exciting, successful projects along the local waterways of Greenpoint and Long Island city.

  • Connect children, parents and educators with active environmentalists, artists, scientist, writers, explorers and naturalist  in the community, and providing informative volunteer opportunities.

  • Introduce local school educators to guest environmentalist, and discuss opportunities for fun local class field trips for their students.

  • Provide facilitators to help lead informative question and answer discussions with parents on how they can get involved, and help contribute to their children’s environmental education.

The Waterways of Hope film screening is about bringing people of diverse backgrounds together to learn about, experience and celebrate these natural treasures of New York City--the waterways of hope.

*Contact information for all organizations exhibited in the films will be available at the end of each session.
